The lionesses regrouped while the buffalo kept a wary eye.
Then, the height of 'cool'--the lionesses took a little nap,
right in
front of the bulls.
A running feint by some of the bulls soon put a stop to that. But
notice the cow right behind the lionesses, just grazing away as though nothing is happening.
With the lions around every day, I guess they get used to them and don't worry as long as the
older bulls are doing their job.
As one lioness gets chased away, another can get closer again. This is
all part of the strategy of constant harassment as they tire the bulls out, work their way closer
to the herd and choose the victim.
Here another toys with the bulls. It shows what confidence the
lionesses have--each of these fellows weighs over half a ton! They are very close to her,
but she knows she can run faster than they can. She reads their every move and can
spring away quickly--they play this game every day.
