Before I begin the letters on the hunt, here are just a few more birds.
Guinea fowl are fun to watch--they go everywhere in a sort of panic
mode. The local people say they are very good eating.
This may not look like much to you, but it was a great spotting by
James. We were nearly upon this marsh owl, which, as you can see, was not real obvious
It is less than 14 inches/35cm tall and has bright russet wings when it flies, which it did
for us after we stopped just in time.
Just part of a dead tree................but with two lilac-breasted rollers
and a yellow-billed oxpecker, which is much less common than the red-billed oxpecker that we have
seen on the animals so far.
The little bee eater, 5 inches/14cm, is nice looking from the back................
.........but spectacular from the side!
This is a pied kingfisher, probably the kingfisher seen most often.
They are usually sitting on a branch over water, but this opportunist was grabbing the small
captive fish out the drying-up pond where we saw all the storks.
