Like dogs in a manger, the big guys continued to eat by themselves.
Here one turns the carcass over. They had such strength!
Even they are about at their limit of eating. Look at that
stomach hanging down!
And the others are sleeping off what they got in the beginning.
One lioness is so full, she can hardly breathe and can't stay awake.
Ahh........that takes a little pressure off the stomach.
They eat as though there is no tomorrow, but they know they can get
another--it's all just instinct.
When they Duba Boys were finally finished eating, the good brother walked a
little way off and gave out with a huge roar! We were only about ten yards away and the
sound was unbelievable--it shook the ground! I guess he was announcing to all the other
prides that there had been a successful kill and also to any wandering males that he had eaten
and had lots of new strength in case they wanted to make something of it.
When we drove by the carcass the next day, there was nothing left but
the horns and some scattered bones, thanks to the hyenas, jackals, and vultures.
