I've entitled this letter, leaving the Delta, but the first three pictures were taken as
we came over the Okavango Delta at the beginning of our stay in Botswana and the last two as we were
leaving, so you can see how much the water increased in just ten days.
Although it's much greener than the land south of the Delta, you can see there is
very little permanent water.
There are a few large spots where there is water year round. These are the
saviors of the animals.
As we got more north in the Delta, there was a lot more water. It just sort of
grows--you don't see any flowing like a river.
What a difference as we fly away from Savuti ten days later!! You'll have to
take my word for it that the arrow points to a group of about ten elephants. That's one of the
exciting things about flying in the small planes--spotting animals on the ground.
Everything but the highest hummocks will be under water within three weeks.
There were more elephants bathing where the arrow points.
I'm quite pleased with these pictures which were taken with the little point and
shoot camera through the dirty plane window. The camera has a setting that has two little mountains
as its symbol and the book said it was good for shots from airplanes. It is!
