The elephants we saw out in the open of the Savuti Channel were unusual.  It's more normal to just get glimpses of them in the heavy bush like this.

And you feel really lucky if one turns around and you do get a front view.

We recommend Savuti Camp because you do get a chance to see the whole elephant and even to get close enough to see the details.  What a marvelous thing the elephant trunk is!

Here's an elephant footprint.  You can see it's wider than a big Land Rover tire.  The slight scuff on the upper left tells you that the elephant is going in that direction and dragged the toe just a bit.  This is the print of a back foot--the front foot print is rounder.
