This set of cheetah pictures doesn't have the quality of the others which were taken in
good light, but this does show one doing something other than lie around!
We were headed to the lagoon, of sunset fame, for our sundowners and just as we came
out into the open near our spot, Jackson saw this cheetah sitting up a little embankment in the bush.
She was so beautiful in the late rays of the sun, which unfortunately was not enough light for a real
sharp picture.
She sat for a while as the light faded even more and then came down and walked right
in front of us. There were red lechwe grazing down by the lagoon.
Just seeing her walking was thrilling--they are so well put together! I love to
watch the shoulder blade action. See how the tail is flatter at the end to act as a rudder and help
with sharp turns.
She continued purposefully on, but entered high weeds, good cover for her, at this
point, so we couldn't see any more, but we heard her charge and heard the lechwe running off at highest
speed--an interesting sound as they were in very shallow water at first. Another vehicle way on
the other side of the lagoon saw them go by, but reported that she didn't make a catch this time.
So we went to the edge, had our sundowners, talked about the great cheetah sighting
and watched the sun go down over the hippos.......sigh.......
