During one of the drives, we came around a corner and there was a lioness lying right there in the grass!

Our ranger quickly turned the vehicle aside so the tracker could hop off the jump seat on the fender where he had been sitting--six feet/two meters from the lioness when we stopped--and hop into the vehicle.  It must have really startled him to suddenly see her lying so close.  I asked if they ever got used to seeing lions all the time or were some of them special.  He said, "You do get used to them, but some are special.  And this one was special"!!!

Then she sat up and looked around.  I just love the lioness profile.

 

Then she did a huge yawn for us showing all her very impressive teeth.

 

After that she figured all was well.....and phlump......back to sleep.

We thought she was special too.
