As soon as the bull turns away to leave, the lionesses move in again.  They are very serious at this point and everything happens very quickly.

The boldest lioness grabs the baby just as the mother tries to lead the calf into the thicker brush.  As the cow goes deeper into the brush, we can't see her and James very quickly drives us around and beyond her in the brush, thinking she will come out the other side, but she doesn't.

This turns out to be fine with me--our view of the actual kill is somewhat obscured by the tall weeds.  The lionesses struggle, but can't stop the buffalo, and suddenly one of the Tsaro Pride lions finally joins the fray and leaps right on to the cow's back.

He works his way up her back biting and clawing as he goes.  The noise is horrendous.

He finally gets to her neck and manages to turn her over.  It was a display of massive strength giving me a little better impression of the lion's part in all this.

Finally she goes down but still bawling loudly, as is the calf, who has been forgotten in the excitement of getting the big buffalo.  Sorry for the obscured view, but in the end, I really think it's a better way to see a kill.

All the lionesses quickly get in to start eating and the buffalo finally dies and is quiet, but the calf is still crying and crying--as are all the women in both vehicles.  One man, who has been Mr. Macho at camp, has his shirt over his face and his fingers in his ears.
